Young ISSAD Team: Expanding our global GBS network

Young ISSAD was created in 2021 as a group of students and early-career researchers committed to support the dissemination of research, information and events related to Group B Streptococcus (GBS), in between ISSAD conferences. Since then, Young ISSAD has worked closely with the ISSAD organizing committee to promote GBS awareness, research and events among the academic community and the general public and ultimately highlighting the relevance of ISSAD conferences in this context.

As the ISSAD 2026 conference approaches, the ISSAD organizing committee, together with Dr. Natália Costa, Dr. Laura Oliveira, and MSc. André Rio Tinto, representatives of the Young ISSAD Board are working to reshape the current format of the group and propel it even further by creating the new Young ISSAD Team.

In its new format, the Young ISSAD Team aims to support and address the needs of the GBS community of students and early-career researchers. The mission of Young ISSAD Team is to empower early-career voices within the GBS community, fostering mutual support and expanding and strengthening our global GBS network. Along with the Board, the Young ISSAD Team will be formed by its members, selected from an application-based process. It will be expected of the members that they (i) assist the board in maintaining an active social media presence and promote online and onsite events; (ii) advocate for the Young ISSAD Team with other students and early-career researchers in their region; (iii) and promote outreach activities to raise awareness about Group B Strep.

By being a member of the Young ISSAD Team, you will be able to:

  • Connect with members with shared research interests to develop new collaborations.

  • Propose topics for educational webinars and workshops.

  • Collaborate with other Young ISSAD Team members to submit session proposals for ISSAD conferences.

  • Connect with GBS experts in academia and industry.

  • Present your candidacy for the Young ISSAD Board.

If you are a student or early-career researcher in the field of GBS, we welcome you to be part of the Young ISSAD Team! The official launch of the Young ISSAD Team will happen during ISSAD 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya, and detailed information about how to become a member will be released after the conference.
